Job description

The conflict in Ukraine has led to the overspill of over a million forcibly displaced persons to Poland. As migratory flows continue unabated, IOM is urgently and significantly boosting its capacity in Poland to provide multi-sectoral assistance to respond to urgent emerging humanitarian needs in a dynamic context. There is an urgent need for the provision of accurate and up to date information on available services, as well as transportation for vulnerable individuals in need.

 

Under the overall supervision of Project Coordinator and direct supervision of Community Support Coordinator, the successful candidate will be supporting project operations through facilitating communication with migrants in the assigned site(s) and the Polish-Ukrainian border points.

 

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with border crossing authorities, support coordination between relevant actors at border crossing points, and support the implementation of site improvement plans.

  • Provide information to refugees through established IOM help desks, coordinate and support the work of other volunteers at crossing sites and ensure refugees are oriented after arriving on site.

  • Provide interpretation for effective communication between IOM staff and migrants, including during individual/ group sessions, activities, escorting.

  • Identify vulnerable refugees and support their referral to relevant protection services, including Third Country Nationals, unaccompanied minors, and single-female headed households.

  • Ensure border crossing have information available for refugees on their legal rights, relevant support available at the border crossings and access to protection services.

  • Support in translating information materials/ documents and other needed information used for individual and/ or group activities in the migrant communities.

  • Ensure compliance and alignment with the Mission’s policies and procedures and especially with IOM’s Data Protection Principles.

  • Ensure that access to beneficiary’s personal data is restricted to need-to-know basis.

  • Facilitate and encourage the integration of gender perspectives and attention to specific women’s and children’s rights issues (vulnerable groups) within all activities.

  • Perform such other related duties as may be assigned.

 

Requirements

Education

  • High school degree/certificate with minimum two years of relevant work experience.

  • University degree from an accredited academic institution in related field would be considered as an advantage.ead of Projecternsabilités s :

Experience and Skills

  • At least two years of in work related to above description, including interpretation and translation;

  • Possess adequate combination of knowledge, education, training experience and skills to perform essential functions of the position;

  • Computer literacy in standard software applications;

  • Experience in working in a multi-cultural environment preferred;

  • Strong work ethics and commitment to humanitarian principles;

  • Willingness to work in day/ night shifts, during holidays and weekends;

  • Valid driver’s license with at least three years driving experience an advantage.

Languages

  • Fluency in Polish, Ukrainian and/or Russian is required. Good knowledge of English advantage.
